The majority of our state was historically prairie landscape and Montana is still home to much of our planet’s intact prairie ecosystem. Montanans often take these relatively stark-looking and harsh environments for granted. The prairie is an exciting and diverse wonderland of plants and animals and a perfect place to apply science content understanding related to ecosystem interaction, energy and dynamics, animal behavior, and earth’s systems. We’ll explore some of the rich science of our prairie ecosystems through classroom/schoolyard activities. Educators will also learn about a full-funded program for Middle School students and teachers - the American Prairie Field School through a partnership between American Prairie and Montana Outdoor Science School.
